My English blog moved to this new domain

October 18th, 2008 by Charles Peng 9 comments »

I tried my best tonight to move my English blog entries from Pengyulong.com to this new domain hosted in Hostgator. I didn’t major in computer related specialized field in unvierstiy, it’s really a shame because I met a lot of problems when moving them. I was so happy when all troubles resolved at last.

How did I move my English blog?

Well, first of all, I Exported pengyulong.com MySQL database from its host phpMyAdmin, and backed up all files in the old wp-content directory. Then, downloaded the lastest wordpress 2.6.2 and uploaded to the new host, and seted up a new MySQL database and made some necessary change of the wp-config.php file, and uploaded to the new host’s wordpress directory. After that, imported the mysql file which exported to the newly-created MySQL datebase. When I opened http://www.charlespeng.com, it was automatically redirected to http://pengyulong.com… it’s useless this way…

Excla.im: a jabber bot to update your twitter status

Twitter has officially stoped allowing you to update your twtiter status via IM, it’s not convenient enough when you using a computer without any Twitter clients installed in your computer, But everyone has a Google Talk, so it would much better if you can add new tweets via Google Talk…

Although, as I said abobe, Twitter officially doesn’t allow you to update your status via Google Talk, but we have many other ways to do this too. I once introduced identi.ca, which is a same micro-blogging service like Twitter, if you have a identi.ca account, your status posted can be easily synced to your Twitter account. That is to say, you updated your status on identi.ca via Google Talk (identi.ca supports IM), this status will be posted on Twitter too.

Very cool Tango Icon Theme for GNOME

Have been used my Fedora 9 desktop for half a year, I really got bored with the default Fedora Themes, especially the default icons theme, so I tried to look for a better one on the whole net, and I was so excited when I found the unofficial tango icon theme. It’s high quality and looks very cool. The Tango team is just the contributor of GNOME icons themes, so their icons have a good visual metaphor for Nautilus and other GNOME modules.
