Before you launch this software, please disable SELinux and restart your computer. (This is a very 1st release for Fedora 10, and it may conflicts with SELinux, although it’s not harmful for you system, you’d better disable SELinux first before lauching this software after installation. But I strongly suggest you re-enable SELinux ater your test). It runs perfectly under Fedora, If you lauch this software with SELinux enabled, if any problem occured, please feedback to TualariX, thanks.

This is my current Fedora 9 linux desktop screenshot: Gnome with Unofficial Tango Icon Theme + A nice wallpaper + Conky.

I don’t like those linux desktop with a Mac OS X dock bar (instead of the bottom panel of gnome)….

I saw on Martin Sourada’s blog a cool Echo Icon Theme from Planet Fedora yesterday. It’s really nice and cute, I love it at first sight, I posted a comment asking for the download address.

Thanks to Mr. Nicu Buculei, he replied my comment and told me this theme can be “yum install”ed in Fedora directly, I did when I went back home after work, and changed my current Tango Icon Theme to Echo without any hesitation.

Well, when I was browsing my photo album I found this fake Ubuntu ads by Bill Gates, which was uploaded 2 years ago. When at that time, I installed Ubuntu 6.06 in my hardisk with Windows XP in my office computer. It’s for me for the 1st time to try Linux in the real sense.

While now, although Bill Gates recommended Ubuntu, I prefer Fedora much more…:smile: and will not switch back to Ubuntu, never!

Well, I just created a group called “Fedora User Group” in soup.io. Soup.io is a social aggregation tool that looks to combine all your as well as your contacts’ social media into a long stream. It’s a great fuction I need. With Soup.io,  I am now able to add Planet Fedora RSS and other Fedora-related RSSes to combine into just ONE and show in ONE webpage.

A Fedora Chinese Ambassador and core member of the Fedora Chinese User Group, Mr Yuan Yijun (User:Bbbush) organised a meeting on #fedora-cn IRC channel on Oct. 17th. They discussed how to promote Fedora in China through different activities, and determined to set up a forum for all Fedora Chinese users.

After this meeting, Mr Yuan created another fedora activity group on Google, and organised an executing group to accomplish these objectives I said above, I joined in, and other 4 fedora fans joined in this executing group too (6 in all),  for the past week, we dicussed a lot with each other in fedora-activity mailing list, and a lot of problems were soled perfectly. Everything went well.

For years, there’s no Chinese Fedora-only forum or bbs in China, it’s maybe the main reason why Fedora is not so popular in China. What we are doing is just cover this shortage.

We determined at last to use http://bbs.fedora-zh.org as our Fedora Chinese User Group Forum domain name from several candidates, “Fedora-zh” means both simplified and Traditional Chinese, and a “.org” domain is more suitable for us. For forum hosting service, I shared my Bluehost, and installed a vBulletin software myself, thanks to bluehost, our forum is very fast in different areas in China.

Currently, our forum is still in “Beta”, we make a lot of changes everyday, we added different forums for different Fedora users (Fedora newbie, Fedora expert, Fedora developper) to meet different needs, we are also improving vBullentin itself to meet our requirements. It needs more longer time for us to open to the public.

I did nothing because I was so busy these days after the forum was installed. I loged in just now, and found we already have a large number of registered members. Thanks for all your support.

I installed both GNOME and KDE environments in my Fedora system. I personally much prefer the GNOME desktop, and seldom went to KDE desktop, but I had a try KDE last day and took some screenshots. KDE 4.1 is much better than ever, but I am not familiar it… and even don’t know how to use it.

I opened my blog in firefox, it’s just good.

Have been used my Fedora 9 desktop for half a year, I really got bored with the default Fedora Themes, especially the default icons theme, so I tried to look for a better one on the whole net, and I was so excited when I found the unofficial tango icon theme. It’s high quality and looks very cool. The Tango team is just the contributor of GNOME icons themes, so their icons have a good visual metaphor for Nautilus and other GNOME modules.

Well, the photo above is just captured when the Tango Icons installed while I am chatting with a friend with China Mobile’s Fetion IM service (using LibFetion), and at that time, a friend on Google Talk coming online in the Gossip messenger.

Now, I have a very fresh feeling after logging in my desktop, and it has a different, much more better looking like a new OS with a different, fresh-new experience

And I want to recommend some sites that help you to customise your Fedora (or other Linux distro) desktop, one is http://www.gnome-look.org (for KDE users, go to http://www.kde-look.org), you all know this site Another one I’d like to introduce to you is the GNOME Art http://art.gnome.org/, and tell you the truth, the official Tango icon theme is just downloaded from there. I found a cool GNOME wallpaper too, which I will set it as my wallpaper this night.

This is my laptop I bought on May 1st, 2008, Compaq Presario V3800 V3805AU (KS388PA) with Red-Flag Linux Desktop 5.0 pre-installed, but I really dislike this Linux distro, so I formated all my hard disk and intalled Fedora 9, this photo was taken when I installed.
