Brizzly is a web-based Twitter client, one of the best one in my point of view. It’s still in private beta, requiring invitation code to sign up, you can submit your email address here and wait to be invited to join in. I got to know this because a Chinese Twitter user Young Yang introduced it on Twitter with a invitation code in the other day. I’ve checked it out over the last week, and have really come to enjoy it.

Brizzly has a very good user interface, brings you the best tweeting experiences. You can publish your tweets (tell others what you’re doing or thinking), read messages which contain “@YourTwitterUsername” (@ messages), read tweets you marked as “Favourites”, and read/write direct messages to other Twitter users. You can also search tweets or people you follow, manage the people you are folloing in groups. All these features come in one place, and, with multi-twitter account support. It’s quite useful.

Brizzly is not just a Twitter client, but it’s also a photo sharing service based on Twitter: You can upload your own photos to Brizzly severs and publish the photo link along together with any message you enter and share it out on Twitter between your followers. This is a very good service that I prefer, instead of twitpic, but all-in-one.

Another reason why I prefer Brizzly so much is its real-time stream feature, if a new tweet contains a link with videos or images, or you uploaded a photo to Brizzly sever and published it, Brizzly will automactically recogize it’s source link and embed it and displays the images or video together with your tweets you newly published or new messages published by the people your are following. (as far as I know, I’ve confirmed that brizzly displays photos from YFrog and TwitPic and that it pulls in YouTube videos.)

Brizzly automatically resolves shortened urls. For example, when you post a tweet on brizzly with a long url, brizzly will automatically turns it into a Bit.ly shortened url; On the other hand, if the one you’re following posted a shorted url on Twitter, when Brizzly displays it to you, it will reconvert it to the full long url.

In one word, Brizzly is a very good web-based Twitter worthy for you to have a try. Please try to be invited first

Hello, guys, I started a program recently on Twitter since Mar. 21st this month called “1 Linux Software 1 Day“, which is aim to recommend ONE linux software ONE day to the CHINESE linux users. I think this is a good idea to introduce others a perfect linux application they would like so as to promote Linux as a lot of people still think there’s not as many software as Windows or Mac (I think a lot of people refuse Linux just because of this).

I read articles on tuxmachines.org almost everyday, and a lot of applications are introduced, but I don’t have enough time and energy to translate or forward them on my blog, but Twitter is a good place to do such things, it’s convenient engouth for me.

At very first, I just tweeted in Twitterfox the software I like in Chinese language, but I found it’s hard to be archived every software that I recommended, and other people who didn’t follow me can hardly have a chance to know them too, so I added every tweet a tag “1soft1day“, this tag is currently unique, so, when you try to search this tag on Twitter Seach, you can get all softwares I recommended before.

Well, now, I brought this “1 Linux App 1 Day Program” to English-speaking Linux user too, with another tag “1app1day”, when you type this tag name and search on Twitter, you will be able to see all of my recommended software, and all in English. You can also visit this url directly: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%231app1day

In general, please seach #1soft1day for Chinese, well, #1app1day for English. Please help me and keep these two tags unique (you’d better use another tag if you have related program), and, please don’t post this tag in your tweets (so there’s no waste)

I suggest you follow me @pengjiayou on Twitter, so that you’re be able to know what I recommend at an early time, and, to recommend me the software that you like by @ replies. Thanks.

As for many Linux users should have known, Mitter is one of my favorite open-source, and cross-platform client for Twitter, it’s a Linux native application runing both PyGTK and on a console/terminal.

The latest version of Mitter is 0.4.5, you can download it here or run yum install mitter in the command line to install it in your system.

I registered and begun to use Twitter last year, Mitter was my favorite Twitter client for a very long time since then in my laptop (running Fedora 10). It has the basic feature which any Twitter client should have, especially the latest 0.4.5 release, I had been using this version for quite a long time, although this version meets my needs and requirements, but it has a little problem: some Twitter followers’ profile images are displayed very large, which made the whole interface very ugly, see my previous screenshot for an example:

I know Mitter is open-sourced, but I know nothing about programming, and know nothing how to solve this problem as well. However, one of Chinese bloggers and Linux fans solved this problem finally on his blog post, whom I know latter is also a Twitter user @shengbo, he hacked Mitter 0.4.5 and made my twitter experice much more better!

This hacked Mitter improved the following features including:

0, Resoved the bug of displaying large profile images
1, Removed “What are you doing” above the input area, this line takes up too much spaces
2, Word count instead of the “Add” button
3, Hide menu bar, just press Alt+9 to hide the menubar to release more space
4, Refresh button at the left of input area
5, Alt+X to hide the whole Mitter window
6, System tray icon: click to toggle windows visibility

Thanks @shengbo, who made Mitter more amazing. To install this hacked Mitter, please run git clone git://github.com/albert748/hacking-mitter.git in your terminal. Or you can download it directly from here.

BTW: A latest Linux (Ubuntu) Twitter and Identi.ca app

Today, I found a new Twitter project called wallDent. wallDent is a script that turns your desktop wallpaper into an identi.ca or Twitter timeline.

What a cool interface. Can anyone tell me how to compile and install in Fedora 10? Thanks in Advanced. (Source code is here https://code.launchpad.net/~nhandler/walldent/trunk)

Gwibber is an open source microblogging client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK. It supports Twitter, Jaiku, Identi.ca, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, and RSS, it has much more great feature than another of my favorite and frequently used Twitter-only client called Mitter.

I always launch Mitter when I log in my system, because I’m a heavy user of Twitter. And Mitter requires all my demands, simple and fast to load friends’ tweets under my EDGE mobile broadband. But, recently, I always met some large avatars of some twitter users, twice as it should be. It made my Mitter window very ugly.

Although I knew and installed Gwibber for so long a time, I seldom used it, it has an default theme which I dislike, and, it loads and sents my tweets very slowly. But I can’t bare the large avatars problem any longer, what I can do to solve that problem, is to unfollow that large-avatar twitter user, that’s what I don’t want.

Thanks Google Reader, I saw a nice-looking Gwibber theme by chance, downloaded Gilouche 0.2, untared it ~/.local/share/gwibber/ui/themes/ , and actived it, so nice. I like this dark theme so much.

Well, in the Fedora software repositories, we have 3 choice of a Twitter clients that you may like. Try to install by run yum install gwibber mitter twitux, there will be one that fits you.

Twuffer is easy to use, just log in with your Twitter username and password, input your tweet, and set a time when you want your mesage to be scheduled, and set this status, and Twuffer will work for you.
Twitter has officially stoped allowing you to update your twtiter status via IM, it’s not convenient enough when you using a computer without any Twitter clients installed in your computer, But everyone has a Google Talk, so it would much better if you can add new tweets via Google Talk…

Although, as I said abobe, Twitter officially doesn’t allow you to update your status via Google Talk, but we have many other ways to do this too. I once introduced identi.ca, which is a same micro-blogging service like Twitter, if you have a identi.ca account, your status posted can be easily synced to your Twitter account. That is to say, you updated your status on identi.ca via Google Talk (identi.ca supports IM), this status will be posted on Twitter too.

Another unofficial IM bot for Twitter is Excla.im, it’s a very easy to use, no registeration required, just log in with your currently Google Account, just say, your Gmail account, after logging in, just input your twitter username and password and your Google Talk account Email, after that, add tweet@excla.im as your Gtalk contact, when you send a message to tweet@excla.im, this message will be automatically posted to Twitter.

Another good news is that, we have a new Twitter client for your KDE desktop now, it’s called Qwit.

Qwit is a simple Qt4 based client for Twitter.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

Updates are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS, RSS, email or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook. For SMS, four gateway numbers are currently available: short codes for the United States, Canada, and India, as well as a United Kingdom-based number for international use. Several third parties offer posting and receiving updates via email. (via wikipedia)

Although there are so many ways to update your tweets, but on Linux, the best Twitter application is Twitux of my choice. It’s a light-weighted and UI friendly programme. I prefer Twitux other than Firefox+Twitterfox (A Firefox extension that notifies you of your friends’ statuses of Twitter.) It has a system tray and when your friends adds new tweets, it checks your twitter status every 3 minutes and notify you if anything new. It takes up only a little of your RAM.

Are you a fan or user of Twitter? To install Twitux on your Fedora 9 desktop, just type this command yum install twitux in your terminal, and press Enter. That’s easy. Please follow me on Twitter http://twitter.com/pengjiayou

While, another of my favorite micro-blogging is called identi.ca, I don’t know if there are any applications to update your status on identi.ca, but it’s also very convenient to update your status via Google Talk(Twitter had this fucton before, but now disabled).

I got to know that many Fedora Ambassadors posts updates about what they are doing, what’s they want to do or what they are thinking on identi.ca, and they even contact each other by its @username fuction, I registered an account on identi.ca too, to update my current status, for example, what I am doing or what I did on my Fedora 9 system, or latest news on Fedora or opensource that I knew.

Please subscrible my identi.ca also if you want, http://identi.ca/pengjiayou , and another identi.ca feature is its updates can be synced to Twitter, yes, it’s ture, my status I posted on identi.ca also showed on my twitter too, in other words, you can even update your tweets via Google Talk now. And my status shown on the right side of my blog is from Twitter by a service by Friendfeed which I love this fuctions so much!

Another news about me is that, I merged my two blog Feeds into one by Yahoo Pipes this morning, I write Fedora related blogs in two of my blogs, one is in Chinese, another one is in English, which I just re-enabled. With Yahoo Pipes, these two blogs categories RSSes are outputed just ONE with my previous RSS address http://fedora.pengjiayou.com with no change. Thanks to Yahoo Pipes, both my Chinese-language and English-language blog posts can be displayed on Planet Fedora.

I am also one of the Ambassadors from China Mainland joined in last month (my wiki page on Fedoraproject.org is here) . I installed Fedora 9 in May or June this year in my entire hardisk for the 1st time, and spent most of my spare time to learn Fedora, I was suprised Fedora is so easy to use as a linux newbie. Fedora is an excellent system other than any other linux distros, that’s why I want to introduce it to others, and apply my energy to promote Fedora and Linux in China.

But as an Linux newbie and a Fedora Ambassador, I really what should I do to achieve my purpose, introducing it on blogs is, maybe, one of the best way in my opinion.
